Neighbourhood Plan
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

A Neighbourhood Plan is a document produced by a village to establish the need for additional housing, the mix of housing required between "Affordable" housing and full market price housing, and any other facilities the village deem to be required, and where such housing and developments should be located. This Plan has to be accepted and adopted by Wiltshire Council and then will form the basis for all developments over the coming years.

If no Neighbourhood Plan is produced and land has been offered to Wiltshire Council as potential sites for housing, then they could be developed by commercial developers at a much higher density and without consideration of the village's needs or desires.

Background

Salisbury and Wiltshire Councils have developed their "Core Strategies" for the period 2012 - 2032 which list the need for additional housing throughout the county and in the South West Wilts area which state that the Tisbury district must find sites for xxx houses of which 149 have to be in villages outside Tisbury itself, with Hindon as being one of the 3 main locations.

Current Position

Following the referendum result on the 6th May 2021 where over 50% voted in favour of the Neighbourhood Plan, Wiltshire Council have taken the decision pursuant to Section 38A(4) of the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act, 2004, to 'make' the Hindon Neighbourhood Development Plan.

The Hindon Neighbourhood Development Plan now forms part of the Wiltshire Council Development Plan and the policies in the Neighbourhood Plan will be given full weight when assessing planning applications that affect land in the Hindon Neighbourhood Area.
